Parking Safety Reminder For A470 Storey Arms, Roadworks In Place This Weekend

Dyfed-Powys Police is once again urging motorists to park sensibly on the A470 around the Storey Arms area of Brecon this weekend, as the situation will be compounded due to roadworks taking place at the location which will continue throughout the weekend. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Re-surfacing is being carried out, and there are traffic lights with a convoy system in place which leads to slow moving traffic and long queues waiting. Therefore we are expecting congestion, and the parking that has been taking place on the verges will be very limited due to the length of the roadworks. Roads Policing Units will be in the area as per previous weekends and will be on the lookout for vehicles causing obstructions or illegal parking. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Sergeant Owen Dillon, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “This weekend there will be a police presence around the Storey Arms area as we endeavour to ensure people are parking responsibly, and we will be taking action against those breaching the clearway. Motorists should be aware that congestion is highly likely due to the roadworks and I would ask them to consider if the journey is really necessary or safe. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We are also encouraging people to look at alternative routes up to Penyfan. The area is a National Park and much of the Storey Arms section of the A470 is a clearway which means that roadside parking is not permitted. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Past parking issues we’ve experienced in the area created associated risks for pedestrians moving to and from their vehicles, in addition to potential conservation issues caused by damage to roadside verges.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
