Appeal Following Gwersyllt Fire Incident

Police are appealing to a group of youths who left the scene of a fire to come forwards. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

At around 5.30am on Friday June 3 a group of up to 15 youths were on the Gwersyllt cricket pitch as a small fire burnt in a nearby school outbuilding at Ysgol Bro Alun. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The emergency services attended, but the youths had disappeared. The fire had been lit on the floor of a dis-used wooden out building and was not seriously damaged. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

DI Lee Boycott from Wrexham CID said; “Investigations continue into the fire, which we believe was deliberate, and I would ask anyone within the group of youths, or their families, to come forward. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“I believe the large gathering in the early in the morning must have been pre-arranged. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“I would like the youths to come forward so we can speak to them about what happened. Forensic enquiries are ongoing and I would urge the group to make contact. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
