Appeal For Information Following An Armed Robbery On Caerleon Road, Newport.

Gwent Police is appealing for information following a robbery at the Betfred betting office on Caerleon Road, Newport. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The offence took place at approximately 9.20pm on Saturday 18th June 2016. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The offender is being described as a white male, 5ft 9 to 5ft 11, medium to stocky build, possibly in his 40s with stubble around his chin. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The victim has described his accent as not being local or Welsh but as a Midlands accent but not Birmingham either. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The man entered the store just prior to closing time armed with what is described as a silver handgun. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

He demanded money from the staff in the store before leaving with a quantity of cash from the till. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Whilst the incident was extremely distressing for the people working at the store, no one was seriously injured. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The investigation into this incident is continuing and increased patrols are in the area at present to reassure the community. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

We are appealing for witnesses or anyone who can help to identify the offender and would ask anyone with information to call 101 quoting incident number 612 18/06/16. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
