Arrest Of A Newport Man After Two Armed Robberies
At approximately 10:30pm on Monday 27th June 2016 near the Old Green Roundabout in Newport a person was approached by a male who threatened him with a knife and stole a quantity of money.
At approximately 8:00am on Tuesday 28th June 2016 at the same location a female was approached by a male who threatened her with a knife and stole her belongings.
Both incidents are believed to be linked.
Following an initial investigation Gwent Police have arrested a 27 year old man from the Newport area on suspicion of the two robberies.
He is currently being held in police custody pending further investigation.
At this time Gwent Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the robberies.
Newport city centre Inspector for Gwent Police Kevin Warren said: ‘Our priority is to minimise the risk to public and keep them safe at all times.
The determination of the all officers involved displayed excellent local knowledge and reacted quickly and precisely to make the arrest.
We will continue to respond to all crime and anti-social behaviour within Newport to maintain public safety.’
