Meet The New Faces Keeping Gwent Safe
Congratulations to our 17 new recruits, who have today taken part in their passing out parade, where they were given a warm welcome by the Chief Constable and PCC.
The passing out parade celebrates the end of their initial 18 weeks training and the start of their two years on-the-job training as a front-line officer.
Today’s passing out parade is the first for 2017, with a further 20 student officers ‘graduating’ in three weeks’ time. In addition, Gwent Police is recruiting 140 more officers over the next 12 months, with 60 joining the force before the end of March 2017.
Welcoming the latest recruits, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, said: “The most common issue raised with me in all my engagement events, since my election, is the issue of police visibility. This is why I am delighted to welcome the new recruits who will play such an important role in providing reassurance for our communities.
“One of the most significant challenges all Police and Crime Commissioners in England and Wales have to face, regardless of the nature of crime, is the issue of the reduced police budget and how we can raise more money locally to ensure that we can have sustainable police forces. This is a matter that the Chief Constable and I are well prepared for and one which I am actively working to address to ensure that we can maintain front-line policing as much as possible here in Gwent.”
“I would like to wish the recruits all the best in their new and rewarding careers.”
Chief Constable of Gwent Police, Jeff Farrar added: “I am delighted to welcome these new officers to the Force. They bring with them a wealth of experience, knowledge and skills and with their commitment to protect the communities of Gwent, they will be invaluable. I congratulate these officers and look forward to working with them to make Gwent a safer place for everyone.”
