Council to Begin Public Consultation on Walking and Cycling Route Phases in Treherbert and Treorchy

The council is now looking at the second and third phases of a new walking and cycling route between Treherbert and Treorchy.
Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Council will soon start a public consultation on the latest proposals to improve the walking and cycling routes between Treorchy and Treherbert.
The three-week consultation from July 7 focuses on the proposed second and third phases, from Penyrenglyn Primary School towards Treorchy, forming part of a larger active travel route for the area.
Last summer residents were consulted on phase of the project between Treherbert Railway Station and Penyrenglyn Primary School.
This phase has had the detailed design done and is currently awaiting the outcome of a funding submission to Welsh Government for its construction.
The design phase was supported by the Active Travel Fund for 2025-26.
Now officers are in the early stages of design and development for phases two and three.
These elements propose investing in new walking and cycling infrastructure in the area from Penyrenglyn Primary School to River Terrace with the improvements continuing along River Terrace in the direction of Treorchy. The work area will run broadly parallel to the existing railway line.
Residents will be able to find out more and have their say from Tuesday, July 7, to Tuesday, July 21.

There will be a public drop-in session at The Old Library in Bute Street, Treherbert, on Tuesday, July 7, from 1pm to 7pm for residents to view consultation material, ask questions of the project team, and provide their feedback to the consultation.
The design work for phase two and phase three is being completed using Welsh Government funding delivered via the Cardiff Capital Region Regional Transport Fund for 2026-27.
