By-election triggered in Welsh county after councillor steps down

A by-election has been triggered in a Welsh county after a councillor stepped down.
The by-election for the Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Council ward of Llantwit Fardre will take place on Thursday, September 3.
It was triggered after Conservative Sam Trask decided to stand down having relocated from the community.
Currently RCT Council is made up of 57 Labour members, eight Plaid Cymru members, seven independents, one Green Party member and one Conservative member.
Nomination papers must be delivered to the returning officer no later than 4pm on Thursday, August 6.
Applications to be added to the register of electors in order to vote at this election must reach the electoral registration officer by midnight on Monday, August 17.
Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must reach the electoral registration officer by 5pm on Tuesday, August 18.
Applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the electoral registration officer by 5pm on Tuesday, August 25.
Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on the grounds of a medical emergency or for work/service reasons must reach the electoral registration officer by 5pm on Thursday, September 3.
The medical emergency must have occurred after 5pm on Tuesday, August 25. To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have
become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Tuesday, August 25.
