Plans approved for “anti-vandal” changing rooms at Aberdare sports pitch

Plans to build “anti-vandal” changing rooms for a sports pitch in Aberdare have been approved.
The application for pre-constructed anti-vandal changing room units to be used for changing and toilet facilities within the grounds of Park Nursery, Glan Road, Gadlys, Aberdare, were given the green light by Rhondda Cynon Taf’s planning committee on Thursday, July 2.
It is intended to provide changing room facilities for an adjacent sports pitch which is associated with Cae Pugh Recreation Grounds.
The planning report said the scale and the layout of the design is such as to meet Football Association of Wales tier three ground regulations for changing rooms.
Thee changing facility would feature two changing rooms with associated toilets and shower space.
In recommending approval planning officers said: “The proposal would provide an enhanced sporting and community facility within a sustainable location.
“Furthermore the development would not be considered to impact upon the amenity and privacy of surrounding properties nor would it have an adverse impact upon highway safety.”
There were five letters of objection  which raised concerns regarding the address of the development and that the application incorrectly refers to the area of land as waste ground that is not in use as well as concerns around lighting and antisocial behaviour.
They also raise concerns around an increase of traffic to the development and subsequent parking issues, that the nearby watercourse would be negatively affected by the development, that neighbours were not consulted, and that the development would lower the value of properties in the vicinity.
Other concerns included the status of two dugouts on the pitch, littering and vermin, that the land has restricted covenants that stop the development from
taking place, and that the development would negatively impact local wildlife.
Cllr Loretta Tomkinson said she understood the concerns but said: “I do think this development will support the local community. It will help the football club and the league.
“And we want communities to have better sports facilities. We want to promote healthier lifestyles of any age and it also brings communities together. This is a positive for me.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
