Alec Warburton Murder Trial
Following a two-week trial David Craig Ellis, 41, was found guilty at Swansea Crown Court on Wednesday 22 June and sentenced to life, with a minimum tariff of 26 years.
Detective Inspector Peter Collins of South Wales Police Major Crime Investigations Team:
“Alec Warburton was subjected to a senseless and violent attack in his own home and his death shocked the Sketty community. Our thoughts, as ever, are with his family and friends and we hope that they will take some comfort now that David Ellis has been convicted (of his murder if applicable or manslaughter).
“I would like to thank the public who responded to our appeals when David Ellis went on the run and travelled across Wales and eventually to Ireland where he was tracked down.
“We are very grateful for the support of law enforcement agencies and organisations in the UK and Ireland for their co-operation and support throughout the investigation.”
Statement by Grahame Warburton (brother of the deceased):
“Alec was a loyal brother and friend and a good landlord to his tenants. I miss him deeply and he never deserved to die in the way that he did. I would like to thank the police – especially the family liaison officers from both South Wales and Hampshire – and everyone who supported the police investigation into his tragic death.”
