Statement Following The Conviction Of Two Men For The Murder Of Mark Jones
Speaking after the conviction and sentencing of Edward and Stephen Bennett to life imprisonment at Cardiff Crown Court today (Monday 14th November) for the murder of Mark Jones, Detective Chief Inspector Ceri Hughes said:
“Mark Jones was a much loved husband, father, son and brother. Mark’s death is a tragedy for his family and many friends, who remain devastated by their loss, but have demonstrated dignity and courage throughout what has been a terrible ordeal.
“This has been a difficult and painstaking investigation and I would like to thank Mark’s family for their support.
“Whilst nothing can undo what happened on July 26th last year, I hope that today’s verdict brings Mark’s family some sense of justice to help them begin to move forward. My thoughts remain with them all.
“I would like to thank all of the witnesses, many of whom have given evidence during this trial, and all of the medical staff who did everything they could to save Mark.
“Finally, I would like to reassure our communities that whilst shootings remain rare, South Wales Police will never tolerate gun crime and are committed to bringing such despicable and dangerous offenders to justice.”
Speaking after the verdict Mark Jones’ family said: “After a harrowing 16 months, we, as a family are glad that Justice has been served with the conviction of Eddie Bennett and Stephen Bennett, and that finally we can begin to move forward from this terrible, life changing event.
“Mark was a doting father, loving husband, son and brother, he was a very popular, respected man who is missed every day by all who knew him.
“We would like to thank all our family and friends who have been there for us in our darkest hour and South Wales Police and the Crown prosecution service for their relentless pursuit of justice.”
