Graphics Graduate Secures Role With Design Agency Parade
Lauren Goodland undertook work experience with Newport-based design agency Parade Design in her final year of the course, and has now secured a permanent position there.
“It’s been nice to work on quite a lot of illustrative work since I’ve been here, which is the kind of stuff I most enjoy. Parade is big on branding which I find really enjoyable because it means you get to work on producing more than just a logo, you get to tell the whole story of a business. I’ve learned so much already and am slowly becoming more and more confident” commented Lauren.
Liam Collins, lecturer on Graphic Communication commented: “Lauren has a really distinctive creative style which has enabled her to really stand out and be successful. She’s also got her work in Scribbler as she designs greetings cards, so she’s really been noticed. What we do on the course here at USW is enable our students to find their own style which helps them in their future careers”.
Speaking about her experience on the course, Lauren added: “I definitely think now more than ever that a degree prepares you for the real world with more than just skills. It’s those three years that help you build confidence to be able to get stuck into something you don’t know how to do, or to even go for job interviews in the first place. I wouldn’t have found my style and way of working without going to uni and having time to develop my skills.
“The tutors would always go out of their way to support you, even if this was out of uni hours, and writing my dissertation ended up being more enjoyable than I would ever have thought during first year!”
