Barry Island Becomes First Welsh Beach To Offer Free Wi-Fi To Visitors

Visitors to Barry Island can now surf the web whilst soaking up the sunshine. The Vale of Glamorgan Council has installed free public access Wi-Fi across the seafront. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

In a move to boost digital inclusion across the county, Barry Island has become the latest venue to offer free Wi-Fi to users. Other venues already offering the service include Council buildings, such as the Civic and Dock Offices and Libraries. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

It is hoped that this will be another jewel in Barry Island’s crown in attracting visitors from all over to enjoy the famous seaside resort. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Neil Moore, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

‘Thanks to businesses like Bay 5 and John’s Café for hosting two of the access points, we are the first seaside resort in Wales to offer this service. We hope that visitors will make the most of the coverage and share pictures of themselves enjoying all that Barry Island has to offer.’ ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Lis Burnett, Deputy Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

‘We have invested much in the regeneration of Barry Island and it’s great to see more people enjoying the resort all year round. Having access to Wi-Fi on the beach will make it even easier for visitors to book a beach hut, share pictures of their day and generally spend more time outdoors.’ ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
