Community Group Takes Over Running Rhoose Library

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has transferred Rhoose Library, and the running of library services for Rhoose and surrounding villages, to a local community group led by Cllr Jeff James. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Rhoose Community Library group will provide library and information services to library members, and look to develop new social and learning opportunities for the community. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Three of the group’s trustees, Chris Economides, Hugh Jupp and Cllr James, were present for the official handover of the facility which took place at Rhoose community centre on 31 January. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Jeff James, Chair of Rhoose Community Library, said: “Rhoose Community Library is a registered charity and is entirely dependent on a team of well trained and dedicated volunteers. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“As well as keeping the library open we intend to promote greater community use with activities such as adult education ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

classes, book clubs and storytelling.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Lis Burnett, said: “This is a significant milestone in the history of Rhoose Library. These members of the community should be commended for stepping forward to take over the running of the service. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Those other libraries in the Vale that have already transferred to community groups have so far flourished and we hope that with the continued support of the Vale of Glamorgan Council Rhoose Library will enjoy the same success.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Anyone wishing to volunteer to support the running of the library should contact the library during opening hours. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
