New Lease Of Life For Four Penarth Parks
Four parks across north Penarth are due to benefit from a significant investment by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
The Plassey Square and Paget Road parks and The Dingle open space on Windsor Road are to be significantly upgraded; as are the skate facilities at Cogan Recreation Ground. These are all included in the North Penarth Open Space Improvement Scheme.
These latest regeneration projects are to be funded by the substantial section 106 funding negotiated by the Council from the developers of the Penarth Heights housing scheme.
Some ideas being considered include upgrading existing play areas, installing a fitness trail, tree planting, wildflower areas, new seating and a substantially upgraded skate park at Cogan Recreation Ground.
While the Council will be undertaking the work to upgrade and enhance these open spaces the schemes themselves will be designed following a wide ranging public consultation that will run from Monday 13 June until Monday 8 August.
During the consultation period local residents, school pupils, and anyone else with an interest in the future of Penarth’s green spaces will be able to have their say by either by completing the online survey available at www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/consultation or by attending one of the four drop-in sessions.
The sessions are to be held at held at the following times and locations: Paget Rooms, Tuesday 28 June 6pm – 8pm; Tabernacle, Plassey Street, Wednesday 6 July, 3pm-5pm; The Kymin, Monday 11 July, 5pm-7pm; and Penarth Leisure Centre, Thursday 21 July, 11am-1pm.
Cllr Lis Burnett, Deputy Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council said: ‘This is likely to be the biggest investment in open spaces in Penarth for many years. We have taken the opportunity to suggest improvements to a number of parks across the area. We hope that the variety of proposed improvements will benefit people of all ages from across the community.’
